Ernie’s Dad was along for the ride on Tuesday at the Locksley show at the Smiling Moose, and he snapped some excellent photos. Check ‘em out, and let him know what you think!

What do you need to do to enter?
Click the logo above(or right-click if you’re savvy), and save the high resolution image to your hard drive.
Color it in your favorite graphics program… MSPaint, paint.NET, GIMP, Photoshop, PhotoDraw or even with an online editor like the ones built into Photobucket or whatever.
- or… -
Print it & color it… with crayons, markers, colored pencils, pastels, oil paint, watercolor, whatever. Trace it, recreate it with papier-mâché, make it like a stained glass window, get creative!
Then, get it to us somehow. Upload your file to Facebook & tag us, post it in the comments below, email it to ernie@ernieandtheberts.com, take a photo of your creation & tweet it to us… you know how to get a hold of us. Do it!
Have it to us by 12:00 noon on Wed. Sept. 14th! We’ll pick a winner at practice that night, or put it up to a public vote on this blog or Facebook.
Our Facebook friends should pick their favorite video here: “Ikea” or “Toybox”?
We’ll have some info on more upcoming shows soon, as we get ready to record some of our tasty sonic chops towards the end of the month.
While we’re talking about recording, you can help us put out an album by pledging to our Kickstarter campaign. What is a kickstarter campaign? Well, it’s kind of like busking or commissioning art in the digital age. Basically, you’re pre-paying for your copy of the eventual Ernie and the Berts album. It’s like an Amazon pre-order for something that doesn’t yet exist. Your pre-orders help us to fund the creation of an album. With different levels of donations, you can get different crazy prizes… ranging from a T-shirt to a custom hand-made lyric book, or from a uni-brow & some guitar picks to dinner with the band. If you’re super crazy, you can sing on the album or get one of Ernie’s Ernie Ball bass guitars… used at live shows & most likely on the recording itself.
To help out and potentially get some sweet loot, you go to the site, pledge an amount, and don’t pay until (or unless) our goal is met.
Right now, we’re already more than halfway there! Ernie and the Berts would like to thank all of our backers so far!

Get those contest entries in, and start funding us so you can get a CD in your hands!
Make Ernie proud, and show of your art skills (or lack thereof). We told you that new merchandise was coming soon, right? Well, we didn't lie. Like we said, Ernie has commissioned Zach of Undercover Saints/Schweitz Design fame to put together a killer design for us. Zach does not disappoint! Check out the design: Commonwealth Press is taking care of making the shirts. Ernie ordered some blue & some purple… and instead of the design bein … Read More
Ernie and the Berts 2011 "paper dolls" logo by Zach Schwietzer.
Commonwealth Press is taking care of making the shirts. Ernie ordered some blue & some purple… and instead of the design being inked on, it’s being bleached out. More on the shirts & how to get them once we have ‘em. For now, on to the contest…

So, are we ugly …or do you just not want the prizes? Well, we know we’re ugly, but we’re also entertaining & still remarkably photogenic. Ernie makes love to a camera like no other. We’ve seen cameras at shows. We’ve seen pictures. We know they exist. The Hang Lows are in. We want in too!
As we all know, Pittsburgh is full of great local music and some awesome venues…but what are your favorites? Send a pic of your favorite to submit@onlyinpgh.com and you’ll be entered into the contest! Winners will be drawn on the Friday before the show, and the first drawing will be on Friday, July 29th @ noon. Some special things to keep in mind for this contest:
You may submit one photo per week, but every submission must be of a different band/show. Each submission will count as entry in the raffle, meaning that the more pics you submit, the more likely it is you’ll win!
All pics must have been taken during 2011 — as cool as it is that you were at Bob Marley’s last show in 1980, pictures of it won’t count for the contest
Positive comments on your pic will be considered additional entries for you in the contest. Negative comments will probably be deleted (let’s be real–there are plenty of outlets for being negative…onlyinpgh strives to be 100% positive
If you don’t win, your entries carry on to the next drawing!
There’s a rumor around that our new shirts are being made soon by Commonwealth Press. Maybe we can convince Ernie to give one to whoever submits a photo of us to this contest. I bet we could convince him quite easily to give you a killer keychain.
Here are the prizes still available…
Friday, August 12th @ Noon: Two tickets to Justin Townes Earle (Show on 8/18)
Friday, August 26th @ Noon: Two tickets to Badfish – A Tribute to Sublime (Show on 8/27)
Don’t make one of the Burts submit our own photo.
At any rate, even if you don’t submit us… submit your favorite local band or venue. Pittsburgh’s got a bunch of musical stuff going on, get the word out! OnlyInPgh is a cool site, we’d like to see more local scene stuff featured there!
We have a cool new T-shirt design coming to torsos near you. Maybe we’ll tease it before we share it. Maybe we’ll ask what colors you want. Maybe we won’t. We’ll most definitely have it at shows once they’re in our hands.
Maybe Joel will put the new logo on himself too. Maybe someone else will be crazy enough to do it, or crazy enough to let Joel put it on them.
Maybe the fake Chinese Ikea will sell bootlegged copies. (“11 Furniture, 11 Furniture, they’ve got a ball room!”) I hear we’re huge over there, either that… or no one there has heard of us. I forget which one I heard.
We’re working on new songs too. Maybe one day we’ll have a proper demo. We promise that the proper demo will be as improper as possible.
We’d like to take the time to tell you about a contest at Only In Pgh. It’s a Pittsburgh Music Scene raffle, where you can possibly win tickets to upcoming concert events. Basically, they want you to submit photos of your favorite band & venues as entries into their raffle. What Ernie wants you to do is to submit photos of your favorite local band… us! We’ve played at plenty of cool places around town… The Fallout Shelter, The Bloomfield Bridge Tavern, The 31st Street Pub, The Smiling Moose, Howler’s, The Altar Bar, Excuses, etc. So, dig up your photos and enter the contest! If you win, you don’t even have to take Ernie (or a Bert).
OK, you can submit pics of your other favorite local bands too. Get some exposure for killer bands like The Undercover Saints, The Hang Lows, Dethlehem, Reel-A-Peel, The Scratch N’ Sniffs, The Sablowskis, and all the other people we know & have played with. Yinz support ‘burgh music!
Until then, try to misbehave so we don’t look so bad. We’ll see you on the 14th, keep checking the show calendar for more insanity.
We believe that we can say without a doubt that this is the world’s first Ernie and the Berts tattoo. Perhaps this will be the world’s only and or last Ernie and the Berts tattoo… but it’s still pretty badass for a duck with a bow on its’ head.
Ernie and the Berts: The Tattoo!
Joel Fatal of Never Outgunned Tattoos is not only the tattooee, but the tattooer. That’s right, he did it on himself. Joel is a longtime friend of Bert, and probably ought to be checked out by a mental health professional. As of yet, we really only have one recorded original song, and he hasn’t seen us live.
Ernie and the Berts - logo by Zach Schweitzer
The design itself is the work of Zach Schweitzer of Undercover Saints fame, and Schweitz Design, commissioned early on by Ernie and also featured on our stupendously awesome punk rock T-shirts. (Which are still available for only $12 by the way… in case you want a less permanent way to sport an Ernie and the Berts logo!)
So if you want an Ernie and the Berts tattoo, you know where to go to get it, and if you want a band logo designed, you know where to get that too. See how many things you’ve learned today?
One lucky Ernie and the Berts friend & fan who goes by the YouTube handle johnnyaUSA captured a very special moment last night. Ernie got to live out 3 rock n’ roll dreams (a.k.a. “steps to becoming a man”) at the 31st Street Pub and it’s all captured here on video. What are they? Well, you’ll just have to watch and see!
It just goes to show you that if you don’t really put any effort into things, it’s OK. Why? Because you can do a half-assed job in front of a room full of friends, peers, and strangers… and most of them will be too drunk to care anyway.
Here are some photos that Jason took of our set, click the thumb to see the full size photo…
Here’s all the bands that participated last night, even though the sign clearly stated “Absolutely No Covers“:
All of the above bands are worth checking out. If you see that they’re playing somewhere soon, go out an see them! The theme of the night (besides Turbonegro love) was that it’s all about having a good time, getting along, and supporting all of the other bands and venues in the local scene. We look forward to rocking out with all these cats in future shows, and hope we’re invited back to the next one of these million-band tribute shows!
